The Australian national apple breeding program, ANABP 01, has reached an important milestone, with Bravo apples now fully distributed nationwide and Soluna moving into an expanded export phase following its recent China launch.

The progress has unlocked a new release of ANABP 01 trees for Australian growers, in a program built on strong market performance, disciplined growth and long-term profitability.

Bravo remains the flagship for the domestic market, while Soluna is positioned for export, giving growers a balanced approach: premium returns at home and access to rising global demand for managed, high-quality IP apple varieties.

Beyond China, export opportunities are opening up in India, South East Asia,

the Middle East, the US and Canada, offering growers diversification beyond the Australian retail market.

The program’s national footprint is a key strength. Growers are spread across multiple production regions, reducing seasonal risk and supporting a consistent supply of fruit for both domestic and international markets.

Production volumes for Bravo and Soluna are expanding at around 20 per cent annually, with many orchards still in their early bearing years.

Tree plantings are aligned with demand forecasts, with regular reviews to keep supply in balance with market needs and protect pricing. Growers say this disciplined supply model underpins the program’s long-term sustainability.

Investment at orchard level is also contributing to results. The adoption of modern production systems, including protective netting, has improved fruit quality and reduced weather-related risk, supporting access to high-value retail and export channels.

In the domestic market, Bravo has established itself as a standout premium apple. Its deep burgundy colour gives it strong shelf appeal, while its crisp texture and balanced flavour meet consumer expectations for eating quality.

Bravo continues to command premium pricing, helping growers offset rising input costs.

Soluna complements that domestic success by opening doors to export markets, giving growers access to premium segments where managed varieties are in demand and creating additional revenue streams.

The program also gives growers access to agronomic expertise, technical support

and an established production and marketing framework.

With Bravo embedded domestically and Soluna entering its next export phase, new plantings across Australia will support future demand while keeping the focus on quality, consistency and profitability.
