Australians have this year had their first taste of an irresistible new kiwifruit sensation after Zespri unveiled its limited season RubyRed Kiwifruit.

The naturally berry-sweet variety with bright red flesh, which contains antioxidants, hit Australian shelves this year for the first time.

More than 600 tonnes of Zespri RubyRed Kiwifruit was available in Australia this season, offering a bold alternative for berry and kiwifruit lovers alike to enjoy for any occasion.

To create this delicious fruit, Zespri worked with the Kiwifruit Breeding Centre, a partnership between Zespri and the New Zealand Institute for Bioeconomy Science (formerly Plant and Food) using natural breeding techniques.

While this natural process of cross breeding can be a meticulous process, the totally natural, delicious, nutritious, and high-quality goodness speaks for itself.

The Zespri RubyRed Kiwifruit delivers antioxidants, vitamin C, and natural berry sweetness, all in a single fruit.

Only available for an estimated seven-week period at this stage, the 2026 fruit appeared in a mix of retail and independent stores.

Discussing autumn superfoods, nutritionist Susie Burrell says “boasting natural berry sweetness, antioxidants, and vitamin C, you cannot go past adding a few Zespri RubyRed Kiwifruit to your shopping trolley next time you see them in store”.
